Pompous Maximus and Servillius Wretch

by Big Rory and Co

They’re bigger than Ben Hur! Pompous, the Roman centurion, and Servillius his devious slave turn up after years in the wilderness to check up on how the Roman Empire is doing.

The stiltwalking Pompous is huge and utterly full of himself, whilst Servillius grovels and sneaks along beside him managing to make them both look completely ridiculous.

It is not every day that people get to laugh at a giant Roman and his slave and this is a great act for historical events.

‘There are some street entertainers that could put on a plastic bin bag and still entertain better than most, and Surreal McCoy, the creators of Pompous Maximus and Servillius Wretch are right up there with them. Once again they have created a pair of characters, with appropriately daft costumes, who you cannot fail to love and who will never fail to entertain’

— Stewart Collins, Henley Festival

‘They are two of the funniest, cleverest, and most professional street performers I’ve encountered’

— Jan Nar, National Folk Festival Canberra
