OYSTER OPERA was set up by Fiona Oliver-Smith (nee Tanner) after graduating from City University & GSMD in 1998. With a firm resolve to bring the wonder of opera off the distant stage and closer to the public, they work in corporate entertainment, street performance and mount small scale whole operas. With a fabulous wardrobe of costumes bought from ENO & ROH sales, Oyster Opera perform well-known opera arias in the open air, unamplified (unless required) and with a large spoonful of comedy and humour they engage passers by or static audiences with the power of the true operatic voice. Children & toddlers are equally delighted as grown-ups.
Oyster Opera singers are freelancers who work internationally. They travel all over the world and have performed for a huge variety of events and people: a dinner for Placido Domingo; Elton John; on the Orient Express; at the Kite Festival, Singapore; for the King of Jordan, Dubai; for David Soul, for Kilkenny and Henley Arts Festivals.
